Up to 26 Indian cotton farmers a day drink the very pesticides they farm with to kill themselves out of debt. In the UK, you can buy a supermarket suit you can clean in your washing machine for £15.
Dirty White Gold is a feature film documentary on Indian cotton farmer suicides, pesticides and fashion by journalist Leah Borromeo.
This film is the story of Indian cotton farmers who are encouraged to develop a farming system heavily reliant on genetically modified seeds and toxic pesticides - a cocktail that pushes them heavily into debt, driving hundreds of thousands of them to desperation.
